Cavendish Farms now has a new variety of potato that will be available to potato growers; the Arbor Globe which is in comparison with a Superior. This potato is a drought tolerant potato that is easy to grow. It also tolerates diseases well and does not have many defects. Arbor Globes have very little scab, a uniform tuber profile, and has a good heavy tuber set. The size of this potato is very consistent, has a good skin set and is especially round. Foliage is large with this potato and it stays green well into October. Also, the sugars in this potato are resistant to extreme temperatures. The Arbor Globe potato is a big yielder, with Jonathan Waugh seeing over 400 cwt. When yields are compared to the Superior potato, the Arbor Globe yields approximately 15-20% better. Arbor Globes are excellent potatoes for fresh cut fries because of their colour and flavour. Frankie Power of Power Farms has grown Arbor Globes for three years now and appreciated how easy these potatoes are to grow, especially when he's consistently seen pretty good yields in return.
